Juliu Horvath, Inventor
Gyrotonic is the invention of Juliu Horvath, a Hungarian raised in Romania, whose professional career in movement spanned years as a ballet dancer as well as a competitive gymnasts and swimmer. Juliu defected to the United States in the late 1960s, where he found success with ballet companies nationwide before his career was abruptly ended by an injury.

As part of his recovery, Juliu discovered a unique combination of the key movement principles that had been such important parts of his life - swimming, gymnastics, and dance - and evolved them into systems Juliu called Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis. A truly innovative movement technique, Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis were also designed to develop the inner strength necessary to support muscular and skeletal strength.

Over the years, Juliu has evolved Gyrotonic as well as its equipment. The most recent advancement in equipment, The Cobra, evolves the classic Pulley Tower to better facilitate total freedom of movement and tempo of exercise so that the body can focus on coordination, strength and flexibility. Although originally designed for dancers who benefit from the broader range of motion that these machines provide, GyrotonicŪ works for anyone wishing to gain strength, flexibility, and coordination.
